Lupins, Lupins and More Lupins at Lake Tekapo

Are you a beginner, intermediate level photographer or maybe just a hobbyist and are you looking to combine your photography passion with an awesome long weekend learning how to capture the beautiful colours Lupins around Lake Tekapo, then come join us.

This will be an awesome adventure for everyone who joins us, especially if photographing these beautiful (but unfortunately invasive) flowers has been on your bucket list.  To make these three days even more impressive we have two absolutely amazing treats:

  • Evening private tour up to Mt John Observatory to  capture the mountains and Lake Tekapo by night
  • Helicopter flight and land up high capture beautiful views of Mt Cook and Lake Tekapo – check out this video


Friday: Meet Lesley in Christchurch for an 8.30am departure for Lake Tekapo

  • Church of Good Shepherd and lupin photography this afternoon
  • Evening expedition to Mt John Observatory with Dark Sky Project
  • Lunch and dinner with wines
  • Nibbles & drinks after dinner while we chat over Lightroom & Photoshop processing techniques


  • Sunrise photography of the sun rising over Lake Tekapo and Church of Good Shepherd
  • More lupin photography
  • Iconic Petes lookout photographic opportunity
  • Helicopter flight from Glentanner and landing up high for a 30-45 minute photographic opportunity to capture images of Aoraki Mount Cook and the headwaters of Lake Tekapo
  • Dinner tonight is at Mt Cook
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner with wines
  • Nibbles & drinks after dinner while we chat over Lightroom & Photoshop processing techniques

Sunday:  Final day, so let’s capture another sunrise before we head back after lunch

  • Plan to arrive back in Christchurch around 3pm – 4.00pm with drop off at Christchurch airport

A general level of fitness is required to carry your camera backpack up small, steep and narrow paths and walking on unstable land.

Walking on rocks is also likely plus walking at night in unlit areas.
